While Office 2003 offered a fresh look and some improvements in functionality, the basic structure has remained the same. While veteran users were able to easily navigate menus family had become increasingly difficult to identify certain characteristics (for example, in Word, which is “insert new rows” to a table in the package “or” table “menu ?).

With Office 2007, Microsoft offers the “ribbon”, a new and more intuitive to access the functions that we used to find in the menus. While the functions are basically the same, now are grouped according to when and how you would normally use them. These groupings are accessed by clicking on tabs that are organized in order to use. The best way to get a better understanding of this change is to check the screenshots, or download a free trial version of Microsoft Office. While Office 2007 was released at the same time as Vista, you do not need Vista to run. The program runs fine on my Windows XP laptop, which had only 512 MB of RAM, and works even better on my Vista laptop with 2 GB of RAM.

As for the version of Office for the purchase, this is the third time I opted for the Home and Student (which has had other names in previous versions, but is still on sale for $ 149). I need Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and this is the most effective way to get those programs. I was disappointed that Microsoft Outlook descended from Home and Student version. In order to continue to use Outlook, I installed Outlook 2003 and have not had any problems.

Instead of Outlook, you get OneNote, a program that uses notebooks and tabs to save and organize all types of files and documents. I have not had much time to play with OneNote yet, but the more I use it, the more impressed I am with it. It seems one of those programs that you can customize to meet your needs and not have to fight with it to get to do what you want.

This is a significant upgrade and should allow all users, new and experienced, to work more efficiently and quickly.

Well, it’s been a week now, and although I still have Office 2002 (virtually identical to 2003) and Office 2007 on my laptop, I’ve basically stopped using in 2002. Do ‘07 a thumbs up.

I have used Office since 1994 only for simple letters and spreadsheets until last year, where I started to become a heavy user of some very strange features, such spacing is not standard, different headers within the same document, spreadsheet Excel embedded in a word doc, embedding images in headers and footers, graphics, tables, etc. I was worried if all these features just discovered that I just learned that the tape disappear suddenly change that everyone was talking about.

Despite the use of strange features, or perhaps because of it, I am a bit ‘more tolerant of looking up how to do things. But I did not want to relearn everything, and I did not have. The default blank document has tabs for Home, Insert, Page Layout, References, etc., which really are not very different from those of classical categories in the pulldown menu. After clicking on these tabs, you are offered the same choice as before … graphics, photos insert, bookmarks, WordArt, etc., and even some new, as references, balloons and highlighting, notes and more. This is a different layout, but at this point I do not think it ever took me more than 10 seconds to find something.

I am surprised that no one talks about the ability to save documents in. Pdf (which was once exclusive to Adobe). I know that other software has allowed this for some time, but the ability to make a document that will launch in Adobe Reader with all the features of Word or Excel is something I’ve been waiting for. In 2 years, we’ll all wonder how we did without it. This is important for me, for once. PDF formatting is locked, and will not change depending on how it is previewed or printed.

Another thing that is important is the new, modern looking charts and tables. This is not just the ‘nice’ factor, but more effective way to understand a lot of data more easily. Office 2000/2002/2003 just looked old and insignificant. It ‘true that Microsoft is just recovering from Apple, Adobe and others, but at least they did. Equally important is the ability to immediately view the formatting changes before committing the act on the entire document. I probably lost a month’s time in the last year reformatting documents do a better way. If only I had written in 2007, which was available a year ago, I would have saved much time.

One reviewer said his Home / student version “did not have all the features, like the full version. I tried to investigate this and how can I say, Home / Student ’s versions of Word / Excel / PowerPoint is no different than any other version.

Not want to be too personal here, but all the guests who are angry that their duties or save the document important work is saved in. Docx and then could not be read by anyone else are really just want to be victims. Office 2007 is more than obvious that you save in. Docx, and if you do not want, do not do anything. It explains how and where to save it as compatible. Doc file (O. xls, etc.) and if you want this as default. I’m sorry, but if you’re a student and you ignore all those messages, I think you’re going to have more problems in school to use this version of Office.

Grammar check seems to have improved, the capture of the problems that my Office 2002 does not. Hot keys Ctrl + K, as hyperlinks or Ctrl + C to copy all still work. I do not know if they removed the other, as some critics have said, but has not hit me. The concept of add-ons (plugins) is a bit ‘annoying, like to have some features like the ability to save. Pdf requires going online and install the add-in. Then again, this gives Microsoft the ability to add features from time to time (hopefully that will be used this way – I think a good reason for add-ons for Microsoft is to provide a way to check periodically to make sure that the software is legal). I also like the always-on word count, something that Amazon would probably would have used in my judgments.

This student edition of Microsoft Office 07 is equipped with four programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote. Unless you specifically need another program to Microsoft Office, this will be more than enough for the average user of Office. You have all the essentials: a word processor (Word), spreadsheet (Excel), a creator of presentation (PowerPoint), and also a nice program to put all your notes (OneNote). Office Home and Student version offers 07 programs based on a price lower than the other versions of Office.

The main difference is between the 07 and this version of Microsoft Office 03 is that all programs now have the “ribbon” instead of being menu-driven. The tape is a much more visual representation of all the features that you can use. All the various functions are grouped into ribbons, which are divided into different tabs, you can click. For example, if you clicked on “Insert” tab in Word would work as “placement” header or “inserting” a table. This means that instead of being hidden in menus and submenus, features can now be found simply because you’re in the right. This allows you to find some useful features that would not otherwise have known existed.

Everything from Microsoft 03 is there, just might take awhile to get used to the new layout of things. There are also a lot of cool new features added in this release as easily be able to write complex mathematical equations in Word (it was a pain in Word 03) and have an easy format to create a bibliography in APA , MLA, Chicago style, etc.

Perhaps the only drawback is that Office 07 is a drastic change from Office 03, which will take some ‘getting used to. After years of knowing all the menus complexity should learn where everything is completely new, which can be frustrating for vetrans Office 03. However, if only to give time to time, you’ll love how well everything is set up and enjoy the new visual style of this version implements.
